Markus Kienzl (live, sofa surfers), Valesta & Band (live)

Mit einem Ruhepuls von 128 bpm und Gehirnströmungen im Wav-Format hat sich eine neue Spezies in der österreichischen Musikszene entwickelt: Valesta. Dieser Name steht mittlerweile nicht mehr nur für Bandgründer Georg Lichtenauer, der seit 1999 unzählige Songs produziert - und dabei eine musikalische Bandbreite von Breakbeat und Hiphop bis House abdeckt - hat, sondern auch für die Gruppe fähiger Musiker, die er seit 2004 um sich geschart hat. So kann nicht nur im Studio, sondern auch live, eine anspruchsvolle Performance geliefert werden.
Der aus Synthesizer, Bass und Schlagzeug gewonnene kreative Impuls schlägt seine Schallwellen nicht nur nach Deutschland und Frankreich, wo Musikschaffende ihre Werke in Valestas remixende Hand gegeben haben, sondern auch nach England und die USA. Außerdem wurde der beatlastige Sound auch auf Vinyl gepresst.
Im Jahr 2009 gewann Lichtenauer den „Young Austrian Music Award“ in der Kategorie „Bester Solokünstler“. Da sich die dreiköpfige Besetzung des Projekts rund um sein Mastermind zunehmend zu einem funktionierenden Ganzen entwickelte, gehen die jüngeren Werke den bisherigen Weg ein Stück weiter als für das erste Album
„Actionfilm“.
So wurde der Schwerpunkt auf schneidende Syntheziserakkorde, wummernde Bassläufe sowie pushende, elektronische Drums gesetzt. Das Resultat dieser Symbiose wird im November 2010 auf CD, aber auch auf Vinyl erscheinen. Hier ist eine 10“ mit Remixen von den Mitchell Brothers (Mentor: Mike Skinner von „The Streets“) und I-Wolf („Sofa Surfers“) in Planung.
Bis zur Veröffentlichung werden vorab Ausschnitte einiger Tracks als Appetizer auf MySpace veröffentlicht. Hier ist auch das neue Musikvideo zur ersten Singleauskoppelung „Best Friends“ publiziert.
„Taking out a 2009 Young Music Award last year, Austrian band Valesta have returned and dropped a big collaboration with fellow Viennese artist Nomadee and Cobane from the UK.”
The track’s titled ‘Best Friends’, and a collaboration with Urban Legends and Kronos Media has produced one of the longest lists of supporting actors I’ve ever seen at the end of a music video, and it shows with the strong quality of production.

Momentan schlägt vor allem der neueste Track von Valesta "Best Friends", der im Britischen Shookmag gelobt wird, Wellen bis hin zur Britischen Insel. Für diesen Track haben sich Valesta - wie so oft - gesangliche Verstärkung an Board geholt: Nomadee aus Wien und Cobane aus England.

After 2 EPs, several soundtracks, and scores of remixes and contributions to compilations, Markus Kienzl, a member of renowned electronic dub collective SOFA SURFERS, is ready to release his first solo album. The result of four years of work, "Product" is a compilation of tracks that were reshaped and harmonized specifically for the album format.
The development of the album¹s sound aesthetics is both stringent and traceable. It shares with its quasi-precursor, the "TILT"-EP (released on Klein Records in 1999), the understated and seductive soundtrack-like atmosphere as well as the interplay of dry and minimal dub rockers, soul influences, semi-industrial jazz, and sci-fi ragga.
"Sure, club music is quite important for me but I¹d be bored producing an album of music just for clubs. That makes sense if you produce a single, and it¹s great fun doing it live in the clubs. I remodel the tracks for that purpose. An album, however, is another thing altogether." This attitude is responsible for the fact that Kienzl created a number of tracks that work well on the dance floors, yet have enough substance to be carefully listened to in calmer surroundings.
